Beyond Ballet…

NYB offers talented young dancers, aged 8 to 18 years, an opportunity to participate in the creation, production and performance of ballet at a professional level.  Dancers work with eminent composers, choreographers and teachers, gaining experience, confidence, and team spirit. NYB continues to inspire creativity, and nurture invaluable performance and life skills through its summer rehearsal school, its annual choreographic competition and performances at major theatres.  NYB is proud to have alumni contracted to major ballet and musical theatre companies in UK and throughout the world.

In addition to staging favourite pieces from NYB’s repertoire for main cast and junior associates, 2014 showcases a celebration of alumni choreographic talent.  Drew McOnie will stage Little Red Riding Hood, a new jazz ballet with live jazz band. Its commissioned score is by Tom Deering (Musical Director of Tim Rice’s new musical ‘From Here to Eternity’).  This vibrant new work calls for dancers from across all dance genres. Jo Meredith will choreograph a stylish new piece sponsored by The Malcolm Arnold Trust with a live trio on stage.  Jo intends to use dancers from across the age range of NYB.  Padua Eaton, winner of the 2013 Genée Choreographic Award has been invited to create a short piece, and Arielle Smith and Alfred Taylor-Gaunt return with new show-stoppers! Additional alumni pieces may include the winners of the Frank Freeman and Nijinska Awards to be adjudicated at Summer School.
