Jessica talks to Chloe Brown of the Evening Standard to discuss her recent run at the Almeida Theatre and life after Downton Abbey.
After dancing with NYB for many years, Jessica Brown Findlay moved into theatre after leaving a ballet career at 19 due to injury. Jessica has since starred in Winter’s Tale alongside Colin Farrell and Russell Crowe, BBC’s Jamaica Inn, Channel 4’s Black Mirror and maybe most memorably, the BBC’s Downton Abbey as Lady Sybil.
We are now excited to learn she makes her stage debut later this month in a brand new production of Greek tragedy Oresteia at London’s Almeida Theatre.
The National Youth Ballet relies upon the generosity of its dedicated volunteers.
The NYB is currently looking for volunteers with experience in theatre/the arts to assist with our 2015 season in August. Volunteering with the National Youth Ballet will help you learn new skills and develop existing ones, gain experience in working on a large-scale production and meet new people.
We are currently looking for Stage Hands, Follow-spot operators, Costume/Wardrobe assistants and a Hair & Make-up assistant.

English National Ballet’s Emerging Dancer competition is now in its 6th year, and this year’s final will be held at London’s Southbank Centre (Queen Elizabeth Hall) on March 23rd.
Back in 2013, NYB Alumnus Nancy Osbaldeston won the award and we are very excited to see no less than three NYB Alumni in the final 8 this year! We send our congratulations to Max Westwell, James Streeter and Anjuli Hudson and look forward to an exciting night in March.
The annual competition allows English National Ballet to recognise and nurture talent and encourage excellence in the Company.
After catching no less than 7 NYB Alumni in New Adventures’ Edward Scissorhands before Christmas, we’ve been busy spotting many more in productions around the world!
In early January, NYB’s Jill Tookey went along to the Royal Opera House to see the wonderful Téo Dubreuil, now artist with The Royal Ballet, after his performance in Don Quixote (Jill & Téo pictured below):
Last week, Jill also caught up with Alumnus Marianne Phillips backstage at the New Wimbledon Theatre during a run of Cinderella…
We are also delighted to read a wonderful review of Danish Royal Ballet’s six part programme at Joyce Theater, New York from Robert Greskovic (Wall Street Journal). ‘Where Men Take the Lead‘ mentions our wonderful Alumnus Gregory Dean. Click the link below to read the full article…
“…lean and graciously smiling Gregory Dean stood out. […] Mr. Dean impressed not only for his ability to cleave the air and control his often tricky turns, but for the cool stasis and certainty of stance that punctuated his choreographic forays…”
More news soon…
