Tessa Balls

Head of Wardrobe

Originally a teacher of Physical Education specializing in dance, my career in costume design and making began when I choreographed and costumed musical shows at the grammar school where I was employed.

I gradually made more costumes when my teaching career ended and my daughters were dancing. I was asked to become wardrobe mistress at Chelmsford Ballet Company and then a persuasive phone call from Jill was the start of the my association with NYB. After a few years with NYB I was asked to be the wardrobe mistress at The Royal Ballet Upper School in Covent Garden. I was there for six years but now I work from home on all sorts of projects.
