The NYB technical team comprises of a Technical Manager, Stage Manager and Deputy Stage Manager who are involved with each season from its outset and organize/run the technical and stage aspects of each production.
They are supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, comprising of friends, parents, ex-dancers, and work experience candidates without whom the show could not go on! Experience ranges from over a decade with NYB to a recent drama school graduate to a first time technical goer.
There is no specific divide within the crew between lighting, sound and stage duties as everyone is encouraged to get involved with all aspects, however personal interests are always appreciated.
Working on stage can include the movement of props, furniture, set, flown cloths and laying the dance floor. Technical aspects can include rigging & cabling of lights, sound equipment and speakers, operating followspots and sometimes the lighting desk during performances.
The season for the technical team comprises a week at a regional venue, which encompassed the ‘Fit Up’ (Putting all technical aspects of the production into the theatre’), a dress rehearsal and 4 performances, with the ‘Get Out’ on the Saturday night after the final performance. There is then a gala performance normally a week or two later where the Fit Up, Dress rehearsal, Performance and Get Out all take place in one day!
Some members of the team are professionals who give their time for free simply for the enjoyment factor whilst for others it is their first venture into the ‘dark side’ of theatre! Whatever your experience, NYB is always pleased to hear from anyone interested in working with the company.
