Clare Thurman

Clare Thurman was appointed as Executive Director in December 2017.

Clare has worked in the arts and cultural sector for over 17 years and specialises in dance and cultural learning. Following five years at the Royal Opera House in 2008 she became Ballet Education Manager for The Royal Ballet. In 2013 she completed a Clore Fellowship and embarked upon a freelance portfolio career.

Clare has led programmes of work for New Writing South and South East Dance and worked with the Children, Young People and Learning team of Arts Council England. She has worked with Kent Dance Network, UNIT Dance and a number of choreographers to propel their business planning and lead on fundraising initiatives.

As an Associate of ‘People Make it Work’, she has specialised in organisational design and change, working on an Organisational Strength Review for Akademi, developing a new learning strategy for the Houses of Parliament and creating a peer learning platform for the Arts Council England funded resilience programme, Change Creation. As a Principal Associate of MB Associates Clare has delivered evaluations for Fun Palaces and Kent County Council and the Creative, People and Places programme ‘Transported’.

Clare is the National Movement Lead for ‘What Next?’ and a Facilitator for the Clore Leadership Programme. She works across the sector as a qualified coach, mentor and action learning facilitator.
