Residential Performance Company
Residential Performance Company
Whether you choose to become a professional dancer or pursue other opportunities, we want to equip you with a broad range of skills that will allow you to fulfill your potential. Join us and you’ll discover it’s our approach that sets us apart as much as our expertise.
Over ten days, as an NYB Company member, you’ll create, rehearse and then perform as a professional dance company. You’ll be rehearsing a variety of new ballets with leading choreographers, established industry professionals and excellent teachers. At the end of the 10 days, you’ll take everything you have rehearsed and the entire company will perform their ballets at a ticketed show at both regional theatres and finally at world-renowned Sadler’s Wells Theatre. And at the end of the two weeks, you’ll have gained incredible performance experience and essential life skills. And you’ll make some great friends along the way.
Company members stay on campus; a typical day starts with breakfast followed by a morning ballet class and then you will begin rehearsing your pieces with our choreographers. When you are not rehearsing you’ll also benefit from attending other classes such as Yoga, Stretching, Pointe Work, Drama, Contemporary and Jazz. We recognise the importance of balance and if the day is particularly busy then we will ensure you rest in the evening. Over the 10 days we will be organising the annual disco night and Frank Freeman Choreographic Competition where company members get to perform their own works in front of a panel of judges. With all our professionals close at hand, you’ll have ample opportunity to discuss your work. Those lucky enough to be chosen will see their work integrated in the Season program on stage.
We select a Residential Performance Company of 105 dancers aged between 9 and 18 years. This is split between 30 in our Junior Company and 75 in our Main Company.
