Ciara Clayton

Rehearsal director for Louise Bennett

I have a passion for dance, especially Ballet and Contemporary and I would particularly like to pursue working in the choreographic field. I am currently studying for a Dance Degree at Leeds Beckett University and this is enabling me to not only study a range of choreography styles but to also choreograph my own work and collaborative pieces.

Within dance I am not only an experienced dancer in a range of dance forms but I have also had the opportunity to support young dancers to develop their skills whilst working at Bowland High School as a Dance Teacher. I have been able to continue with the development of these skills whilst working with Kimberley Berkin at Professional Dance Experience during their Christmas course and also supporting her in some of her associate classes on a regular basis.

I will also be working for Professional Dance Experience during the summer for one of their summer schools. I have also worked alongside Kimberley Berkin and Louise Bennett as an assistant choreographer and pastoral worker for Professional Dance Experience’s Youth Ballet Theatre. This was an exciting opportunity which I thoroughly enjoyed and took a high interest in and I am looking forward to doing more projects like this in the future to extend develop not only my choreography skills but also skills in stage management.

Other experience includes one week at Northern Ballet as part of ‘Work Experience’. This involved being a part of the Academy team, assisting in pastoral care and working on paperwork. I also spent time with the stage management team learning about company rehearsals and making/doing research of prop use. Following this I worked as a Front of House Volunteer for Northern Ballet’s ‘Elves and The Shoemaker’, here I was involved in activities with young children before and after the performance.

Recently I represented Leeds Beckett University and performed at Move It 2017 and look forward to organising and taking part in this again in 2018.
