Alumni

Every former student of NYB becomes an NYB alumnus and joins a network that spans across the globe.  Our alumni have taken up a wide range of careers and can be found dancing in major British ballet companies, performing in musical theatre, touring, directing and choreographing in the West End and Broadway, winning Olivier Awards, acting in television dramas and working in a global law firm as a professional lawyer.  Some have joined our team of Trustees and many others return year after year as part of our artistic team with their work being profiled on a world stage.

NYB produce people with boundless potential and versatility to meet diverse challenges that are not just applicable to the world of dance.

We have an excellent track record in identifying and nurturing young talent, providing life-changing experiences and helping young people progress their careers.  Over 70 NYB alumni are currently working in professional dance companies globally and in West End productions.

We have a history of employing our alumni across the whole of the UK for teaching at our auditions, our residential performance company and delivering inspiring and motivating masterclasses and workshops. Please get in touch using our alumni form if you would like to be involved in future activity, we are always keen to hear where you are and would love to find opportunities to work with you in the future.

National Youth Ballet offered me valuable performance experience and the chance to work as part of a company at a more demanding level.  Those involved have the chance to perform and grow, respond positively to the challenges and expand their knowledge of dance styles.  They can experience the importance of company spirit and feel what it’s like to be part of a closely-knit team.  In all these ways, students can raise their self-esteem and confidence.

Ruth Brill, First Artist in Birmingham Royal Ballet.  NYB in 2000.

Drew McOnie, Director of McOnie Company.  NYB in 2005.

National Youth Ballet was my life line and world really, for 10 years and despite not being a dancer any more, I carry all the lessons I learnt with me still xxx

My time with National Youth Ballet was truly very special and you have given me memories and friends for life.  I didn’t know it at the time but I guess my life as a ballet dancer started with you.  So thank you doesn’t feel quite enough.  But I will cherish every moment I spent at National Youth Ballet ….
