Anna Watkins
Anna has toured her 11-year independent company work ‘Watkins Dance Company’ in the UK & Internationally by funding & commissioning organisations Arts Council England, East London Dance, Swindon Dance, The Garage, DanceEast, South East Dance, awarded Associate Artist (2017-2018) Swindon Dance.
During her extensive 17 year professional performing career, Anna has worked with dance companies & choreographers: Taira Foo Dance Company, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance, Phoenix Dance Theatre (CC Lab), Tavaziva Dance, Motionhouse, Oceanallover, Thea Barnes, Neville Campbell, Harriet Macauley & more.
Selected for ‘Cohan Collective’ working under the mentorship of Sir Robert Cohan, Eleanor Alberta, Yolande Yorke-Edgell, Kim Brandstrup and Kenneth Hesketh.
Nominated for the ‘The Jane Attenborough Award’, One Dance UK Awards 2021 & ‘WOMEN IN DANCE AWARD’ 2020, AWA Dance.
My digital work has been awarded, nominated, screened & selected for film festivals. Demetera International Film Festival (Paris), Film Oxford, Modern Art Oxford | Dancin’ Oxford, FLUX Online Festival 2020, Leeds Festival 2019, Reading Festival 2019. MORTELLE nominated for Best Musical or Experimental Film, Oxford International Short Film Festival 2020. Credited as choreographer & movement director working with disabled artist Danny Smith, (Film Oxford) winner of the Kat Award for Best Dance Video at the Together! 2020 Disability Film Festival. Works REPEL & HUMAN ANIMAL screened at the VIRTUAL INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL INDIA (VIPFI) 2020, representing the UK alongside 7 other countries India, Russia, Indonesia, Uganda, New York, Belgium & Australia.
Anna was the Rehearsal Director for Rubicon Dance Company 2021-2022, following a commission as choreographer to create a new work ’24HR’ for the Triple Bill world premiere.
Movement Director for Soul City Arts production ‘Waswasa’, creation by Mohammed Ali, Birmingham Hippodrome as part of Birmingham Festival, Commonwealth Games 2022.
Guest company teacher for Rambert Dance Company 2017 and ŻfinMalta National Dance Company of Malta 2022.
