Róisín Whelan
Training/Education: Róisín Whelan is an Irish choreographer and director working across Theatre, Opera, and Dance in Ireland and internationally. A graduate of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (BPA & MA), she received the Kathleen Tattersall Leadership Award and previously performed in Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet.
Professional Experience: Theatre credits as choreographer include The Borrowers and Circle Mirror Transformation at the Gate Theatre. Opera credits as Assistant Movement Director include Hansel and Gretel, Eugene Onegin, Festen (Royal Opera House London), Der Freischütz, Madame Butterfly (Bregenz Festspiele), and La Gioconda (Osterfestspiele, Salzburg). In 2025, she will be the Assistant Director on Falstaff (Glyndebourne) and La Gioconda (Greek National Opera), and work with Houston Grand Opera and the Royal Opera House in 2026. Choreographic works includes Íomhá, The Glasshouse (Ballet Ireland Comission), Man Down, and The Galaxy of Occupations. TV and film work includes Moonhaven, Sanctuary, The Tourist, and Life/Time.
