Romy Whai

Training/Education: Romy Whai (she/her) is a self-taught filmmaker with a background in dance and movement practice, continuously developing her craft through hands-on collaboration, commissioned projects, and interdisciplinary exploration.

Professional Experience: Over the past three years, Romy has been building a distinctive voice in screen dance. She has been commissioned by leading organisations including Birmingham International Dance Festival, That! Dance, Anjali Dance Company, and more. Romy’s films—shaped through deep collaboration—have been screened at festivals and received awards, recognised for their poetic visual style and emotionally resonant storytelling.

Biggest Inspiration: “My biggest inspiration is always the people I work with—dancers, artists, and communities—and the honest, human stories we get to tell through movement.”
