Introducing This is NYB! film
At National Youth Ballet, our mission is to bring young people together through creative, joyful and inclusive ballet activities that nurture confidence, skills and positive values. Our vision is that young people are empowered to thrive, shaping the future of ballet and the world around them.
What is This is NYB!
This is NYB! is short documentary film that shines a light on the experience of young people working with National Youth Ballet in a performance environment. The film highlights the rich and varied aspects of NYB activity: Residential Performance Company and RPC Intensive Company, Dancers’ Development Experience Workshops, Moving Minds, Beyond Ballet®, and All In!.
Filmed over several months and capturing the different voices of the young people that we work with, ‘This is NYB!’ is a celebration of how ballet can be inclusive and relevant to everyone, and shows how at National Youth Ballet we are challenging perceptions of what ballet can be and who it is for.
The making of This is NYB!
The film is a collaboration between National Youth Ballet’s leadership team and BYOC filmmakers Kate Church and Michelle Tofi. The brief? To create an informational tool to be shared widely with new audiences, to spark curiosity and surprise, and show everyone – not just ballet dancers, that NYB is a forward-thinking organisation. Through showing audiences our work we wanted to communicate our three core values – nurturing, inclusive and respectful – whilst showing that creativity can be a vehicle for change.
As part of our commitment to widening participation, we will share ‘This is NYB!’ widely across our digital channels, but also take it into new communities where we are building new partnerships to show new audiences that ballet can be for them.
