NYB and City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra join forces
National Youth Ballet is delighted to have been awarded an Arts Council England project grant to support our strategy for widening participation and professional skills’ development. As part of our Beyond Ballet® programme, this funding will allow us to pilot a project which focuses on a very specific need within our artform – for choreographers and dancers to learn the vital skills of working with live music, musicians and conductor.
We are thrilled to announce that we will be working in partnership with City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra, and extending our collaboration to South Yorkshire Dance Hub and local schools in the Sheffield area. The project will bring together dancers, choreographers and musicians, and includes a residential training programme and workshops for over 200 young people. It will culminate in a live contemporary re-telling of Kurt Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins on Thursday 14 April 2022 at 7.30pm in The Octagon, Sheffield. Tickets will be available soon.
NYB’s Creative Director, Jo Meredith recently referenced this project in an article for The Observer examining why dancers are turning away from the tutu. Read the article here
