Every former student of NYB becomes an NYB alumnus and joins a network that spans the globe. Our alumni have taken up a wide range of careers and can be found dancing in major British ballet companies, performing in musical theatre, touring, directing and choreographing in the West End and on Broadway, winning Olivier Awards, acting in television dramas and a lawyer in an international firm. Some have joined our board of trustees and many others return year after year as part of our artistic team with their work being profiled on a world stage.
NYB produces people with boundless potential and the versatility to meet diverse challenges that are not just applicable to the world of dance.
We have an excellent track record in identifying and nurturing young talent, providing life-changing experiences and helping young people progress their careers. Over 70 NYB alumni are currently working in professional dance companies globally and in West End productions.
We also employ our alumni across the whole of the UK for teaching at our auditions, our residential performance company and delivering inspiring and motivating masterclasses and workshops.
We are so proud. In 2018, Arielle Smith very happily announced her new role at New Adventures as Young Associate Choreographer for an exciting new production.
Drew McOnie was awarded Best Theatre Choreographer at the Olivier Awards 2016 for In the Heights at King’s Cross Theatre and is currently Director and Choreographer for King Kong on Broadway and Strictly Ballroom. Drew danced with NYB for many years before choreographing some of NYB’s favourite pieces including The Old Man of Lochnagar and more recently, Little Red Riding Hood with the score written by composer Tom Deering, who worked with Drew on In the Heights.
